Today, 11th June, was the handover of 6 water tanks to the Schools at Zonnebloem Estate. It was truly a delightful event and was such a wonderful experience to meet some of the children from the schools.
We were amazed to see first-hand not only the tangible benefits that the water tanks will have on learners but also the educational impact that SOS is having on these schools.
The event kicked off with children from the schools entertaining the crowd, playing the marimbas and singing. Following a very lively start, Shelley from SOS, addressed the children, asking them questions about the importance of water and water saving. Lastly, the water tanks were then handed over and the children returned to their classrooms.
“I would say one of the highlights of the handover event was connecting with the children and hearing the recitals of Water wise poems written by some of the Grade 6 learners.” - Christina
An excerpt from the poem ‘Water’ by Olona, Grade 6 Zonnebloem
“Water is life giving. It helps us while we are living. Water is what we drink. Not something to just let go down the sink. Help save water. It’s needed by all things living. Not just for fun or swimming. We must try to reuse and our dripping reduce”
